ADVOCACY CHILD SAFE STANDARDS From 1 January 2016, the State Government introduced seven compulsory Child Safe Standards (the Standards) as a result of the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Non-Government Organisations, Betrayal of Trust. The Standards apply to all organisations that provide services or facilities to children within Victoria. It is a legal requirement for sporting organisations of all sizes from grassroots clubs all the way through to National Sporting Organisations to implement the Standards. The Standards relate to developing a child safe culture within organisations and include requirements to have practices, procedures and policies in place to prevent and respond to allegations of child abuse. Supported by the State Government of Victoria, Vicsport developed a support program consisting of resources, information sessions and case studies designed to inform and support sporting organisations as they implement the Standards in their respective settings. Over the past twelve months, support provided by Vicsport also included workshops, industry presentations at club, state and national level and direct one-on-one support via board presentations, document review and meetings. See page 16 for a detailed list of SSAs and RSAs that received support from Vicsport regarding child safeguarding. Case studies, information templates and resources about the Standards can be found on the Vicsport website https://vicsport.com.au/child-safe-standards ARE YOU ON BOARD? Vicsport developed the ‘Are You On Board?’ (AYOB) campaign in 2015 to start the conversation around diversity and inclusion within Victorian sport. This campaign aims to raise awareness and assist SSAs, RSAs, clubs, leagues and associations to spread positive messages about the benefits of diversity and inclusion in sport. Funded by the State Government of Victoria, Vicsport developed a suite of digital resources (videos, podcasts and infographics) specifically designed to help SSA CEOs, presidents and board members to understand the importance of creating sporting environments that are welcoming for people with disability. On Friday 16 February 2018 Vicsport launched the online resources at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. The launch featured a screening of a video featuring as well as a panel discussion and Q&A with members from Disability Sport and Recreation, VicHealth and the Minister for Disability, Martin Foley.
