08 PARTICIPATION AND INCLUSION INCREASING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN SPORT AND RECREATION In the final year of the three year State Sport Program and Regional Sport Program (SSP/RSP) Physical Activity, the aim was to build the capabilities of SSAs and RSAs to deliver effective programs that result in more Victorians, who are less active than others, participating in sport and recreation. With support from VicHealth, Vicsport delivered four workshops in 2017-18 for staff from the 21 SSAs and 9 RSAs funded through SSP/RSP. Topics covered at the workshops included:   Increasing the capacity of the clubs and deliverers to promote programs   Learning from program evaluation (delivered by La Trobe University)   Developing and assessing partnerships to achieve participation outcomes   Attracting a diverse range of individuals to lead physical activity programs The outcomes of the 2017-18 SSP/RSP support program were:   Increased capability to apply learnings from program evaluations   Increased ability to assess the benefit and viability of partnerships   A greater understanding of the crucial role of the deliverer in programs targeting less active people   Opportunities to network and share information across the group of SSAs and RSAs 2017/18 FORWARD THINKING SERIES ‘Building capacity to increase participation through community sport’ In its fourth year, the purpose of the Forward Thinking Series is to encourage sport administrators to ‘think outside the box’ and develop innovative ways to create programs to boost participation in sport. Supported by VicHealth, the Forward Thinking Series comprised of hands-on workshops, including the two-day Sport Jam held at the Sandridge Events Centre (home of the Port Melbourne Football Club). The Sport Jam gave people an opportunity to work in teams to flesh out innovative ideas for industry-wide opportunities – such as ‘how can we transition children from school settings to community sport to promote active habits for life?’. The outcomes of the series were that attendees at the Sport Jam:   Increased capability to define opportunities and share innovative ideas  Understand ways to select, test and refine ideas  Are more capable of prototyping and pitching ideas   Plan to use the innovation tools and templates provided in their day-to-day work THE YEAR IN REVIEW
